Dye fabrics using the Batik technique

The set includes: 5 different fabric dyes, 5 pairs of gloves, 50 rubber bands, 60 grams of sodium carbonate.

Instructions:
Before you begin, cover the work surface with old newspapers or other materials, as the dyes can leave permanent stains. Fill the dye bottles with water and shake for 60 seconds. Fill a bucket with 4.5 litres of water, add the sodium carbonate and stir until dissolved. Soak the fabric/item to be dyed in the soda water for 20 minutes.
Spiral technique
1. Spread the fabric/item to be painted and decide where you want to start the swirl. Grab the fabric from that location and twist it into a spiral.
2. Tie the fabric/item together using the rubber bands: using two bands, make a vertical cross and a horizontal cross to form eight wedge-shaped sections.
3. Put on the protective gloves and choose a colour you would like to use first. Apply it to one wedge-shaped section. In a similar fashion, apply different colours to other sections as well or mix colours. Red + yellow = orange, red + blue = purple, yellow + blue = green, etc.
4. Cover the fabric/item with a plastic film (not included) to keep it moist for at least six hours. This will make the dye stick to the fabric.
5. Remove the rubber bands and rinse any loose dye with warm water until the water becomes clear. Ѕelect the correct washer cycle for the fabric, add laundry detergent (without bleach), and wash the fabric/item.
It is advisable to wash the fabric separately from the rest of the laundry the first few times.
