Knitting a sock

Let's start knitting!

Necessary tools: 5 needles, yarn

The sock heel consists of a heel flap, a heel base and a heel gusset.

Knitting a sock:

Ribbing: Cast stiches on a needle. The number of stiches depends on the thickness of the yarn, the size of the needle and the size of the wearer's foot.

If you are not sure, make a test knit patch.

The socks in the picture were knit with needles size 3 for feet size 40. 16 stiches have been cast on one needle (16x4=64 stiches in total).

Ribbing: Can be knitted in ribbed knit or patterned.

The lower leg part can be as long as anyone wants.

Knitting sock heel flap:

Knit the heel flap with the 1st and 4th needle.

On the right side, knit alternately a slip stich and knit stich.

Turn the left side of the sock and purl all stiches.

The height of the heel flap is as many rows as there are stiches on two needles. On our sock I knit 16+16=32 rows.

Knitting the heel base:

Divide the stiches of the heel flap into 3. If it cannot be done, the residue will remain in the centre. 10-12-10. Equal number on the sides.

Knit the first needle, then the last stich of the second needle and the first stich of the third needle slip1-k1-psso.

Turn the work and purl, the last stich of the second needle and the first of the first needle p2tog.

Knit the base of the heel until all the stiches of the side parts are knit together with the heel base.

Now we have 12 stiches on the needle.

Heel gusset knitting:

Pick 16 stiches on the needles from both sides of the heel flap. Distribute a half of the heel base stiches on each needle. Now we have 22+16+16+22 stiches.

Knit all stiches in the first round. On the second round, start decreasing. The decreases take place at the end of the first needle, where you k2tog and the start of the 4th needle where you slip1-k1-psso.

Continue decreasing until there are 16 stiches each on 1st and 4th needle.

Knitting sock toe:

Knit the ball of the foot as long as the little toe is inside the sock.

Then you can start decreasing the tip of the sock. You can decrease the way you like it.

Rounded toe.

Knit together at the beginning of each needle. In the next row, slip1-k1-psso at the end of each needle.
Knit two rows without decreasing.

Repeat it until 10 stiches are left on each needle. K2tog again at the beginning of each needle.
And slip1-k1-psso at the end of each needle, knit one row without decreasing. Until 8 stiches remain on each needle.
K2tog again at the beginning of each needle. And slip1-k1-psso at the end of each needle.
Until 1 stich remains on each needle, a total of 4 stiches. Cut off the yarn and pull the yarn through stiches. To avoid a pointed sock toe.

Happy knitting!
